Multimedia Developer (Graphic & Layout Design) (Level 7), [1 post]–Kingston salary: $8, 102, 338 per annum. 

JOB PURPOSE 

Reporting to Manager, Application Development, Delivery & Support, the Multimedia Developer will be responsible for: 

  • All design aspects of projects in print, social, email, video, web and branding. 
  • Conceptualizing, designing, and creating a variety of print, digital marketing, and communications vehicles including direct mail campaigns, magazines, brochures, booklets, posters, invitations, advertisements and print and digital displays and content. 
  • Developing effective, cohesive visual concepts by consulting with department colleagues to identify their graphics needs and deadlines for projects. 
  • Reinforcing results by employing a data-oriented creative process during projects. 
  • Working collaboratively to bridge the spectrum between print, digital, and web to ensure cohesiveness among communications vehicles.      

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Technical/Professional Responsibilities 

  • Applies knowledge of the business and industry to create the vision for brands across the JCA to include projects, programs, products and channels. 
  • Interprets vision to lead on graphic design decisions. 
  • Collaborates internally as well as with clients to conceptualize and execute creative solutions that can be translated across various media platforms 
  • Creates a continually collaborative environment and maintain a satisfactory standard of service to key stakeholders   
  • Creates email templates and newsletters when required 
  • Creates high specification business documentation when required e.g. graphics for annual report, job adverts 
  • Creates concepts, designs, and oversee production of highly complex and integrated visual/technical solutions 
  • Designs for digital elements, to include video editing and gif creation 
  • Generates graphic and video content for daily social media and Intranet posts 
  • Packages and publishes content for posts to the Agency’s website, intranet and learning management system. 
  • Assists development team on UI and UX development for web and mobile platforms and in support of video and animation. 
  • Edits content produced for posting or hosting 
  • Producing graphic, video and motion graphic promotional content for the JCA brand. 
  • Conducts pre and postproduction quality checks 
  • Occasionally assists in video shoots: location scouting, filming and video capture. 
  • Maintains and curates a digital asset management system for photography and design content.  
  • Designs and develops learning & teaching content for learning management system. 

Management/Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Collaborates with the unit managers in the development of the unit’s strategic and operational plans. 
  • Guides and advises fellow employees in the creative process. 
  • Participates in the preparation of the annual budget planning. 
  • Manages projects on a day-to-day basis, ensuring deliverables and deadlines are met 
  • Develops departmental Design policies and Standard operating procedures. 
  • Prepares reports as required by management. 
  • Reviews and provides expert advice on all JCA multimedia output 
  • Provides guidance and mentorship on design concepts to ensure deliverables and activities are done in accordance with the company’s standards and guidelines.

  • Works together with other units and divisions within the organization to identify opportunities for process improvements, which contribute to efficiency and profitability.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES 

Core 

  • Effective oral and written and communication skills, especially in terms of interaction with professional colleagues and non-technical users.

 Technical

  • An expert knowledge of print production processes 
  • Understanding of the principles of traditional and non-traditional advertising tactics and strategy as they relate to graphic design and of direct mail strategy;  
  • Experience designing for the web, email, and social media platforms.  
  • The ability to effectively design a wide variety of print and digital media  
  • knowledge of and experience with photography, video production, and editing  
  • Knowledge of industry standard software programs   
  • Experience in the creation of Gifs 
  • Portfolio that represents a strong sense of typography, range of design styles, diversity of projects, and a clear personal aesthetic.   
  • Ability to communicate graphic design concepts 
  • Understanding of Web and Mobile Development methodologies 
  • Appreciation for the System Development Life Cycle 
  • Good knowledge on information mapping, HTML, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, macromedia flash, MS- FrontPage and other web tools such as Ad words, exact target etc.  
  • Some understanding of Learning Management Systems (Moodle) 

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor of Computer Sciences, Information Management or similar ICT related disciplines 
  • At least 5 years of professional Multimedia Design experience 
  • Proven experience in UI and UX development for web and mobile platform. 
  • Expert with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign or other designing solutions. 
  • Proficiency in one or more areas of graphic design, illustration, video production and editing and motion graphics  
  • Experience in animation and animation tools (a plus)  
  • Knowledgeable of content management systems – Drupal, WordPress, Joomla 

 

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB 

  • Work will be conducted in an office outfitted with standard office equipment and specialized software. 
  • The environment is fast paced with on-going interactions with critical stakeholders and meeting tight deadlines which will result in high degrees of pressure, on occasions.  
  • May be required to travel locally and overseas to attend conferences, seminars and meetings. 
  • Expected to demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism.
