Scanner Maintenance Engineer (Level 4) [1 post]– Montego Bay salary range: $4, 266, 270 annually.
Job Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Technical Operations, the Scanner Maintenance Engineer is responsible to:
- Perform routine maintenance to ensure that all non-intrusive inspection machinery and equipment run smoothly and efficiently with minimal downtime.
- Assist with providing training on equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
Key Responsibility Areas
Technical/Professional Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining all non-intrusive inspection scanners and equipment by ensuring that:
- Equipment is checked before daily operations and periodically during service life.
- equipment operates according to approved radiation safety procedures, including using exclusion zones around the equipment.
- Radiation shields and other safety measures are properly installed and operational.
- Inspect and conduct routine maintenance of all non-intrusive inspection equipment to ensure they run optimally with minimal downtime.
- Conduct maintenance process audits.
- Monitor the system fleet availability.
- Assist with training system operations staff on equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
- Properly document all service-related activities promptly and professionally, including inventory, service orders, expense reports, and all other required records.
- Providing support to the System Operations team.
- Responding to significant equipment breakdowns.
- Work with the technical manager and other executives to manage budgets.
- Participates in training programs and continuous improvement efforts.
Customer Service Responsibilities

- Identifies and incorporates the interests and needs of customers in business process design.
Other Responsibilities
- Performs all other duties and functions as may be required occasionally.
- May be required to provide witness statements, attend court proceedings, and give evidence.

- Basic knowledge of laws and regulations governing Customs in Jamaica.
- Good knowledge of international Customs, Enforcement and Border Protection best practices.
- Knowledge of OSHE guidelines and regulations
- Knowledge of Radiation Safety Standards and regulations
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to read system schematics diagrams.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Understanding of safety and equipment procedures.
- Working knowledge of relevant computer applications and systems.
Minimum Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical-related field with a strong emphasis on mechanical, electrical and industrial engineering
- At least two (2) years of experience in a technical hands-on experience, preferable within an industrial setting
- Experience/training in the use of radiation detection equipment.
Special Conditions Associated with The Job
- Work with standard equipment and specialised software will be conducted in various offices.
- Involves working in a fast-paced environment with ongoing interactions with critical stakeholders.
- On-call 24 hours.
- Ability to do physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and climbing in rigorous environments.
- Technicians may work outdoors in all-weather environments.
- Some travel may be necessary to support equipment and system installation and troubleshoot and maintain systems or products.
- Exposure to radiation and radioactive elements.
