Yes. They require an import licence, which should be obtained from The Trade Board Limited prior to importation.
What age motor car can be imported?
Motor cars up to 6 years old can be imported.
I returned from the USA recently and want to import a car. Am l eIigible for special considerations and if so what are they? And how do I proceed?
There are no duty exemptions for motor vehicles imported by Returning Residents, however, once the status of returning resident has been granted, he/she is entitled to import motor vehicle up to 10 years provided that it has been in their possession for at least six (6) months. An Import licence must be obtained from the Trade Board Limited, prior to the arrival of the vehicle.
Do I need an import licensee in order to import a motor vehicle/cycle?
Yes. You must first apply to the Trade Board for an Import License and receive same before making arrangements for the shipping of the vehicle to Jamaica.
Who qualifies for concessions on motor vehicle importation?
Concessionary rates of duty on vehicles are usually given in special circumstances, for example, when the importer holds a job or position which entitles him to a concessionary rate of duty on the importation of a motor vehicle. People who qualify include farmers, senior teachers and government travelling officers, public transportation operators, transport operators in the Tourism Sector.
Who grants motor vehicle concessions?
The Ministry of Finance and Public Service is the authority through which concessions are granted, once the applicant is eligible.
What are the required documents to import a motor vehicle?
You will need to obtain the following documents before importation is done:
- Import Licence
- Title
- Bill of Lading/Order
- Invoice
- Bill of Sight
- Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC)
- E-sad document(Prepared by a licensed Customs Broker)
When do I need the services of a Customs Brokers?
All imported goods with a CIF (Cost Insurance Freight) value of US$5000 or commercial declarations, motor vehicles and firearms must be cleared by a licensed Customs Broker.
