Post Office

The Central Sorting Office (CSO) is one of many clearance points, through which international mails and goods may be imported and cleared, typically smaller packages. The Jamaica Customs Agency supports and protects the post office and its customers by enforcing the laws that protect the country’s mail system from illegal activities.

Clearing Goods at the Post Office :

Personal and commercial packages

All packages arriving at the Central Sorting Office are subjected to examination by customs. When the packages are examined and goods of a dutiable nature, items requiring permits/licences are discovered, the packages are detained, and an advisory stating the reasons for detention is sent to the receiver.

Among the documents which may be required, but not limited to effect the clearance of such goods are:

  1. Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN)
  2. Supplier’s invoice and proof of payment (where necessary)
  3. Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC)
  4. Import Licence/ permits (Ministry of National Security, Spectrum, Coconut Board etc)
  5. Prescription (may be required by Ministry of Health)
  6. KSAC Permit (Human Remains)
Know before you go:
  1. Have your tracking number ready
  2. To utilize the unaccompanied baggage allowance at the post, the name of the importer who travelled must be on the package and the travel documents must be presented to customs.
  3. All goods sent for repairs must be processed on the ASYCUDA through a courier/freight forwarder
  4. Personal as well as commercial packages costing US$100 (FOB) or less, or its equivalent will not attract customs duties.
  5. Overtime goods are returned to sender: Express packages after fourteen (14) days and regular packages after twenty-one (21) days.
